I acquired an old ML370 Proliant server, and I'm attempting to find a way to control the fan speed, as all three noisy fans are running at full blast, and I had planned to keep this thing in the office, because it has no wireless capability or support.
I know the following:HP has a suite of programs that are variously called Insight Control Manager, Server Health driver, HP-health, hpasm, and a few more I can't remember. Obviously these are different iterations of the same program, but I have been unable to determine which one I need, and I've been completely unable to find a way to install any of them or find the repository that contains them.
The website: Download Drivers and SoftwareIt lists a lot of different Enterprise-class Server OSes, but nothing about Ubuntu or any home server OSes. I've only been at this for a week, so I don't know which of these would work with Ubuntu Server, or how to make them work if their aptitude file extension is not .deb. I have a problem with installing OpenSUSE 11.3 on my server Compaq ML370 G3.4 gb memory
and 6 drives, all at 36,4Gb(scsi)On the server it is the Compaq Smart Array 532 controller.
When i install from the DVD, after i choose the default keyboard, the an error comes up, and it is restarting the installation process.When i use liveCD i can get to the desktop, but then evrything hangs.
I have tryed the SLES 11 SP1 and i think and as I recall i can perhaps manually the drivers to the installation.But my main question is, Is there a way to add the controller drivers in the installation prosess of OpenSUSE 11.3?

CentOS 5 :: GPT Partition Scheme On HP ProLiant DL180 Server

I'm installing Centos 5.5 on a HP ProLiant DL180 Server with ~8 TB of hard disk (4 disks that have been pre-RAIDED), from an installation DVD.
Normally when I get to the partitions screen, I would select 'remove all partitions etc'.
But this gives me an error message 'Your boot partition is on a disk using the GPT partition scheme but this machine cannot boot using GPT. This can happen if there is not enough space on your drives for the installation.'
Pressed OK, tried the other three partition options but they led to the same outcome.
Tried Advanced storage configuration: Showed that there was one hard drive (c0d0) with ~ 8 TB of space.
I figured I should create a root sector, set one up with 100 MB of space, ext3, set the mount point as /.
Created a software raid of the remaining space.
Trying to go 'next' gave me a similar error about GPT partition scheme. Trying various other configurations all gave similar errors about the GPT scheme.
What do I need to do? Some earlier hard format of the disk or something?

Ubuntu Servers :: 10.04 Server And Compaq Proliant ML330 G2 W/ATA RAID?

I'm having a great deal of time getting Lucid Server up and running on my Compaq Proliant ML330 G2. I've put a thread up in installing and upgrading, but people there don't seem to have any ideas about my problem. Since I figured there would be a higher concentration of server users here,
I've got a Proliant ML330 G2, 2 1.4 GHz PIV's
A dvd and CD drive on IDE1 (I'll explain why in a moment
A 65 gb hdd on IDE2
and four 40gb hdd's on hardware ide raid.
I've tried everything, but I can't get the sucker to boot. Installing to the raid array doesn't work. Some array setups won't partition, and others aren't even recognized as arrays. I've tried disabling the raid array and installing to the IDE hdd (my original intention) but I just get bad system disk errors. It would be exceptionally helpful if anyone has one of these boxes, or has worked on one, but I'm willing to take advice from any direction at this point.

Server :: Debian On HP ProLiant DL380 - NIC Driver Installation - Firmware-bnx2

I have a HP ProLiant DL380 server and I am trying to install Debian on it.
I had an error that said dhcp configuration failed at the base installation and Debian found my NICs but asked for driver.
I've Googled it and found out that I need to install required Broadcom NetExtreme NIC drivers.
There are images that 3rd people have created but I don't want to use them as it will be a server.
Another way to install them is to download .deb package and install it from a removable media when asked.
So I went ahead and did an expert install mode and choosed adding packages from a media so an option appeared for me to install stuff from removable media now.
Each time I choose it, my flash drive's lights are blinking but then I am getting an error says this package can not be installed are you sure to install a non signed package.
I say yes at that stage but I still can't install and then it says this is probably happening because of kernel version miss match.
I downloaded latest stable copy of Debian and also downloaded the stable squeeze copy of the driver from official Debian site too. [url]
Is this a kernel mismatch between my Deb. version and the driver?
And after many try my server started hanging at detecting network hardware stage, how can I deal with this?

Server :: RHEL4.5 On Blade Server Not Booting After Install

We have done an installation on a blade server (HP) for RHEL4.5.
The server have an HP smart array 2200 controller and during installation it can see the controller and disks just fine.
The installation completes up to the point where the system needs to reboot , however after the reboot it does not start up again and get stuck at the message: 'Trying to boot from drive c:'
We used the rescue option to mount the installation and cant find nythign wrong, even with the grub setup (except that it points to hd96 as its primary disk). we tried changing this to hd0 as well but still no luck.
After about 3 installations we are still not having any luck.

I have another identical server with 4x 146GB UW320 SCSI drives with Fedora 12 x64 and SW RAID, so I figured 14/15 should be the same process.What happens is the server runs great for a while, but when I leave it for a few hours, it becomes non-responsive. I've re-installed 15 and 14 multiple times now and also installed NRPE, which shows load increasing to the point to where the server is non-responsive. It hits high load levels (as reported by NRPE). The load levels appear to be increasing over time. Such as last night:
log off at midnight, load average 0/0/0

From the ubuntu validated hardware list, I can see that this hardware is validated to only 9.04. : hp-proliant-ml150-g6-drivers-linux-ubuntu.html.Nearly all other models are validated to 10.04. Have anyone tried using dl160 g6 with 10.04? What kind of problems we might face while trying?

Ubuntu Servers :: Streaming From HP Proliant Dl360G4P

I currently have my ftp server running off of my hp dl360. Ubuntu 9.10 server. I cannot seem to stream anything. I can use WINS and mount the share and then watch videos over my LAN like that but I want to stream my media over the internet, I already have a domain and NAT 100% set up with port forwarding. The snag I am hitting is I cannot seem to get streaming to work over the net.
the stats on the DL360g4p (1u rackmount) are as follows
1x Xeon 3.08GHz - 512MB cache
2 GB RAM
2x 300GB SCSI @ 10k RPM in raid0.
gigabit NIC
ubuntu 9.10 server
All web(http/ssh) traffic is forwarded to seperate ubuntu server VM running ontop of ESXi on a different 2u HP proliant dl380g3. All ftp/smb traffic is forwarded to the 1u dl360. I have tried vlc -I http (port 8080 redirected to ftpserver) under a detatched screen window and it failed to initialize video driver. I have an entire Directory that I would like to make available to stream.

I have a problem installing Ubuntu on an HP Proliant ML115. This server has a 1TB mirrored RAID setup (and 1 250GB drive), problem is, Ubuntu apparently doesnt like it, it detects the RAID but fails to partition the hard drives and the installation cant continue. I tried the guided partitioning using the whole disk (detected RAID array). Here is what syslog gives me:

Fedora Installation :: Loses CD-ROM Drive On Proliant 3000?

By way of background: I've been using Linux since kernel 0.97.something_or_the_other, but I've been using one of the other distros. This is my first crack at Redhat/Fedora.
I'm trying to install Fedora 10 on an old Compaq Proliant 3000, dual P-II 450, Compaq Smartarray 3200, plenty of drive space, 3C905 based NIC, original Compaq CD drive.
The install will boot from the CD just fine, I get the initial graphic menu to select whether to do an install, upgrade, etc.
I select option 1 to install and I get what looks like an ncurses based screen that asks me to select a language, another screen that asks for a keyboard, then a screen that asks me if I want to install from CD/DVD, NFS, local drive, etc.
If I select the CD install option, the next screen complains that it can't find a drive and asks me to either select a driver from a list of drivers or to insert a driver disk. Doesn't matter what driver I select, it always snaps immediately back to the screen that says it can't find the hardware to match the driver. Every time it does this, it's not spinning the CD to read the driver that I've selected.
IF I go for an NFS install, after it asks me the network parms I wind up at that same driver screen with the same results, no matter what I pick it throws me back to the can't find hardware/pick a driver screen. As far as I can tell, the NIC is never actually trying to wake up.
I know the hardware is functional because if I boot from from CD with my usual distro it identifies and starts all the hardware just fine, CD, NIC, RAID, etc.
I can see where it might work to have the necessary driver module for the CD on a floppy, but where do I get the module? I tried mounting the .iso images for the install set on another machine but I don't see anything obvious that looks like modules that I can cabbage onto.

Fedora Installation :: Cannot Install 14 On HP Proliant Microserver From USB Stick

I recently purchased HP Proliant Microserver with the idea of having it as a home server running Amahi. I added one 2TB hard disk to the already installed 250 GB drive. The Microserver has no cd/dvd drive so I created a bootable pen drive using LiveUSB Creator tool from Fedora 14 installation DVD iso image. However, I ran into problems in the very first phase though I struggled hard, juggling i386, x64, Live images..
Now, for i386 Fedora: The machine successfully boots from the pen drive but after selecting language and keyboard, the installer does not see the installation image - or even the pen drive at all - saying 'No driver found'. Then, I can only open 'Select Device Driver to Load' (screenshot) where I can only see whole bunch of drivers I have no idea which of to select. I tried 'USB mass storage driver for Linux', nothing happened, I'm returned back to 'No driver found'. Haven't found the 'HP NC107i PCI-Express Gigabit Ethernet Server Adapter' driver in the list..
x64 Fedora: Same result, though x64 at least recognizes the HDDs that are already in the box (screenshot) so I can try to use image files unpacked on the second one (ext4 formatted). Then, the installation proceeds till the point of formatting the installation drive when it suddenly 'Cannot find ISO 9660 image' (screenshot) and I cannot but Exit.
Live x64 image: I tried the Live bootable image from the same pen drive - it booted and installed correctly and at the first glance the system was working fine, connecting to the internet, downloading updates etc. However, this is not my option because I didn't have the option to add additional Repository during the installation from Live image (as it is in this guide, search the page for 'Add the Amahi repository'). why the installation is not working in my setup?

I'm wondering if I could put my old DualCore PCIe Board into a Proliant 3000? Why not; I mean, the Array Controller should plug right into the PCI slot on the DualCore board. Of course, I'll have to shoehorn a second power supply into the case for the newer Board, but wouldn't it be a monster! Two 3GHZ Processors, with a 256 MB nVidia graphics card, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 8 Hard Drives! (7, actually, because one of them doesn't work). I'm up late, and I think I'll start working on it right now.

HP Proliant Server will not boot to O.S. Upon power-up system performs POST and finally starts looking for bootable device..3 are listed CD-ROM, ?, SCSI.
And then falls into a loop here. No errors that I recognize (I'm newbie to LINUX). Server has 6 SCSI drives and using the SMART START CD, are testing ok. I've broken down box to minimum hardware requirements and was even trying to boot in Safe Mode, if there is even such a thing for Linux.

All web(http/ssh) traffic is forwarded to seperate ubuntu server VM running ontop of ESXi on a different 2u HP proliant dl380g3. All ftp/smb traffic is forwarded to the 1u dl360. I have tried vlc -I http (port 8080 redirected to ftpserver) under a detatched screen window and it failed to initialize video driver. I have an entire Directory that I would like to make available to stream.

Ubuntu Servers :: 10.04 Raid On HP Proliant ML115?

I have a problem installing Ubuntu on an HP Proliant ML115. This server has a 1TB mirrored RAID setup (and 1 250GB drive), problem is, Ubuntu apparently doesnt like it, it detects the RAID but fails to partition the hard drives and the installation cant continue. I tried the guided partitioning using the whole disk (detected RAID array). Here is what syslog gives me:

Ubuntu Servers :: Installing 10.04 On Proliant 3000?

I got my hands on my first real server hardware yesterday - a PIII 600 MHz COMPAQ Proliant 3000 with 1.8 GB RAM, Smart Array 3200 controller and 4x18.2GB SCSI ULTRA 3 hard drives. RAM is upgraded from original and USB card added - otherwise hardware arrangement appears to be original.
Minimal 10.04 installed (35 minutes boot to boot) as Server 10.04 could not detect CD drive. My problem? Everything works but it does not look right. Probably my bigger problem?? I know almost nothing about RAID and the more I read the more ethereal my understanding seems to become.
When installing, I chose to install with LVM on c0d0. Grub written to MBR. I have posted df -l, fdisk -l and lshw output below. Would someone tell me if this looks correct and, possibly, offer some pointers if it does not.

Ubuntu Servers :: Installing 10.04 On A HP Proliant DL180 G6?

installing Ubuntu 10.04 on a HP Proliant DL180 G6, especially via the LO100 virtual KVM? I can boot almost any linux distro with it, but unfortunately whenever I boot the Ubuntu server cd the screen gets garbled. I did some searching on the net, and found some references to older versions of Ubuntu where one had to add vga=771 to the boot options, but this still doesn't work with 10.04. I tried several vga modes, all to no avail (with vga=normal the screen gets garbled, with anything else the screen just stays black). Anyone got any idea on how to fix this?

I cannot seems to get my server to access the internet even though I can easily managed to do stuff inside my LAN. I can ping the server on the W7 Computer and vice versa, as well as access it via SSH while inside the network.

General :: RedHat 5.5 Load Error On HP Proliant DL 380 G7

I have been loading Red Hat OS 5.5 x86_64 version in HP's Proliant DL 380 G7. One of the Server's after triggering the iLO and setting the Server to the determine the hostname so that, it can check the eth0 settings and then it probes for the video adapter, the screen goes completely blue and the characters that are on the screen at this point are not readable at all.Looks like to me the screen is throwing the system characters completely leaving no trace of what's going on. The screen is blue with those characters and the server is freezing..Looks like a hardware iLO issue, but not sure. When I restarted the server, it picked up the PXE boot and loaded windows upto the serial key and all that loading process was readable.

I try to install linux Slakware 8.0 on HP Proliant 350ML server. I can boot from the CD but then anytime I do fdisk /dev/sda I see a message that the hard drive cannot be accessed. Is there anyting I can do to secceed?

Debian Installation :: HP Proliant N40L Does Not Boot Into USB Stick

I have downloaded the 'debian-7.8.0-amd64-netinst.iso' from the official website. I then used dd to create a bootable usb stick. The usb stick is detected by the HP Proliant server but it does not boot from it, even if no other OS is present (so boot order is not the problem, and even if it was, i checked the bios). I tried the original iso in a Virtualbox environment and it worked without a problem.
I then tried creating the usb stick in Windows using 'Unetbootin' and 'LinuxLive Creator'. When I insert the stick into the HP this time it boots from it and all is good. I can not use this approach though, because I want to automate the installation until I can SSH onto the server. But somehow unetbootin and linuxlivecreator overwrite my modified debian isos preseed file (which also works perfectly on a Virtualmachine).I also used dd to create a Ubuntu usb stick and that works without a problem on the HP Proliant.

Ubuntu Servers :: Blank Screen - HP Proliant Microserver And 11.04

I've installed Ubuntu Server 11.04 64-bit on an HP Proliant Microserver. The install seems fine but I'm having a start-up problem. When I boot the server, I get a blank screen after the Grub Menu. If I press ALT-F2 I get the login prompt. I've tried editing the grub file (after having done some googling) and tried adding nomodeset to the following line in the grub file:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT='quiet splash nomodeset acpi_osi=Linux'
I added nomodeset as well as acpi_osi=Linux to see if that would do somethng. After adding nomodeset, when I boot the server, I still get a blank screen after the Grub menu but this time a blinking cursor. Again, if I press ALT-F2 the login prompt shows up. So it boots (I'm able to putty/Webmin in even when the screen is blank) but don't know why I need to press ALT-F2 all the time to get the login prompt to appear. Plus I don't see the boot process right before the login as well.
HP Proliant has the following chipset and processor:
- AMD RS785E - north bridge, core logic controller
- AMD SB820M - south bridge
- AMD Athlon II NEO Processor 1.3 GHz Dual Core
I've also tried adding xforcevesa instead of nomodeset and that option too leaves me with a blank screen.

I Can't install SLES 9 SP3 (Novell OES SP2) on HP ProLiant DL 320 G5p
SATA 82801GR controller

SATA CD-Rom TEAC DV-W28S-RS
INTEL e1000 2 port NIC
It seems no CD-Rom was found by SLES as well as no NIC was found. So I can't start install nor using CD or LAN. I started booting from OES SP2 CD 1. The boot loader started normally, but when I chose Installation it says Could Not Find the SLES 9 Installation CD. Activating Manual Installation.
Here in the manual installation screen I check System Information - Hard Disks and CD-Roms It says No Hard Disks or CD-Rom drives have been detected so far Then
1. I erased the BIOS/HD through RBSU
2. downlaod Driver Diskette for HP U320 SCSI Adapter, SAS HBA with RAID, SCxxXe and SCxxGe series HBA (x86 and AMD32) for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86)
3. startfed installation again.
Now I can see in the manual installation screen - System Information - Hard Disks and CD-Roms MY RAID 1 ARRAY 278GB, but still NO CD-ROM, NO NICS at ALL. Also I have recently updated all firmware, tried changing CD/DVD-Rom adding ordinary SATA HDD, and the result is the same - no CD, no HDD is seen. So I suppose the linux kernel doesn't support my motherboard SATA channels? Additionally, I tried to install SLES 10 SP3 (OES2) and it was success, all the hardware were detected including CD and NICs How can I add driver prior to installation or install using my array HDD?

General :: CD Not Found When Installing RHEL 5.4 On HP Proliant DL380 G3?

I've been asked by my boss to install RHEL 5.4 onto a HP Proliant DL380 G3 which we have here. Now I'm a total linux newbie but can figure my way around most things but this has got me stumped.
I have downloaded the RHEL 5.4 i386 DVD iso and burnt it OK. But when I boot from the CD in the server it doesn't recongise it. I put the DVD into any other server/PC and it boots fine. The server also boots fine from other CDs'DVDs?
Anyway, I thought I would try the boot.iso instead so I burnt this and the DL380 boots fine. I try the default install option, select country/keyboard layout/ select local CDROM as the install type and this is the problem now.
It ejects the boot CD so I put in the RHEL 5.4 DVD and it keeps saying:- the red hat enterprise linux server cd was not found in any of your cdrom drives I have reburnt the DVD and same problem. I have also tried creating a VM with the DVD and this boots and installs fine in VMWare so I know the DVD is good.
